As we are three months through the MLB regular season, there are some awards that we can begin to see martial artists, like the American League Cy Young Award. There are some big names and young studs leading the betting markets so today we are going to discuss the case for each and if we should attack the bet right now.
All odds are considered the consensus odds so they can change depending on the sportsbook you use as well as when you attempt to place the bet. You can get some extra money to bet these odds playing at some real money online casino, so make sure to take advantage of those as well.
Shane McClanahan (+290)
When you think of elite pitching, it is hard to not think of the Tampa Bay Rays Shane McClanahan. As of this writing, he is 8-3 with a 1.77 ERA and a 0.83 WHIP. The 25-year-old is dominating right now as he is leading the American League in ERA, strikeouts (123), and WHIP. He even is leading the majors with a 200 ERA+, so the numbers are definitely favoring his dominance.
Through his first 15 starts, eight of them have been with one or fewer runs scored against him so he is keeping Tampa Bay in a great spot to win. Sitting at +290, this seems to be great odds as Tampa needs someone who can eat innings as they implement the opener strategy throughout most of the other games. The only issue is if they put an innings limit on him, but he did throw 123.1 innings last season as a rookie.
Justin Verlander (+290)
Coming off Tommy John surgery that forced him to miss all of last season and is 39 years old, people didn’t know exactly what to expect out of Justin Verlander but he has dominated on the mound. He is 10-3 with a 2.03 ERA so far in 97.1 innings. He is leading the majors in wins but is up on the charts in almost every statistical category.
He has a 182 ERA+, meaning he is 82 percent better than the average pitcher so far and has thrown five starts without a run allowed. He has the benefit of a solid bullpen to secure wins for him and minimize potential losses. He knows what he is doing as a veteran pitcher and a former MVP so go with +290 as well for him as the injury is the only thing that can slow his momentum down.
Alek Manoah (+650)
Another young stud pitcher in the American League East is right-hander Alek Manoah, who is 92 with a 2.09 ERA and a 0.961 WHIP up to this point of the season. He is able to pitch to contact and keeps the baseball in the ballpark with 0.7 home runs per nine innings pitched thus far.
He has been facing solid lineups this season as well as he has seen the Yankees three times, the Red Sox twice, and the Astros once so he is facing some extremely stiff competition up to this point. He also has pitched at least seven innings in four different starts this season so he has the ability to pitch and get outs in a quick fashion to pitch deeper into the game. At +650, this feels like a good ticket to bet on as it has some value associated with it.
Gerrit Cole (+850)
Gerrit Cole has the ability to be the best pitcher on the planet as he is 6-2 with a 2.99 ERA with 111 strikeouts and a 1.008 WHIP so far. He has been the bridesmaid but never the bride as he has been in the top five of the American League Cy Young Award voting in each of the previous four years, but has never captured the award. At +850, there is definitely value there but I do not see this ending up cashing out due to his ability to struggle in individual starts to balloon some numbers.
